mit sloan school of management
bringing student life to life
The Sloan School of Management at MIT is widely known as one of the top business schools in the world, with a focus on the role technology plays to the future of work. But life at Sloan isn’t all business. In tandem with a university-wide effort to enhance the appearance of its interiors, the MIT Sloan Student Life Office came to us with a desire to highlight the social aspects of the “Sloanie” experience.
With over 80(!) student-run clubs, Sloanies can pursue their interests—while also networking and enjoying experiences outside the classroom. From the Kitesurfing Club to the Rolling Sloans, Sloan wanted to showcase that the students don’t always have their faces in a book or on a computer screen.

The Student Life Office identified two nondescript corridor walls in the building as a perfect opportunity to highlight life as a Sloanie with an engaging display. Visual Dialogue created a flexible system inspired by something you may have seen in a workshop: pegboard. We designed custom panels with offset posts to display information and photos (printed on paper-based, recyclable board). The design utilizes the MIT Sloan brand colors, typefaces, and stripe pattern to coordinate with graphics throughout the building.

“To see this come to fruition and completion is absolutely AMAZING! Thanks to each and every one of you for seeing this through, lending your guidance, expertise, vision, and navigating us all through this process. I’m really pleased with how it came out and I cannot wait to keep it fresh and vibrant for years to come!!!”– NIA DEYOUNGE, DIRECTOR OF MIT SLOAN STUDENT LIFE OFFICE
The modular system allows the panels to be swapped out and reconfigured each semester. Large monitors are also worked into the composition of each wall, displaying timely Sloan news & events. This flexible display will remain fresh and relevant as it evolves with input from Sloan students and faculty year after year.
